Mar Fu Qi

As someone with an unknown birth history, she is a descendant of unnamed springs.

Mar Fu Qi (1999) is a Dutch/Chinese visual artist who works with performance, poetry, film and photography.

Her primary senses as feelers for imagination, she embodies questions that are alive.

The image as her navigation tool to travel personal emotional landscapes and experiences of everyday absurdity.
She explores the quest for identity from a rich fascination with body memory, as she moves to
the roots of origin.

In a rapidly changing world,
where everything seems to become elusiveI want to be in the here and now with you.
Followed gestures on a silent bed, placed in the isolated coldness of a completely white scenery, two bodies moving closely along with each other. Presence to Remember explores physical closeness in our digital age and the desire of capturing to preserve the memory. A work that started from a feeling of alienation and disembodiment towards herself and the other, Mar Fu Qi searched for new forms of intimacy.
To save the moment, to stand still. To get closer again. Slowly and quietly, in the moment, together

This work was on view during UNFOLDING TERRITORIES, group exhibtion by cockroach collective, KABK photography, the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague at Grey Space in the Middle, 27th of January 2022

My body is a leaking vesselleaking words I can’t describe certain experiences are ungraspable
to put into wordy speechyet the body always tells...

From overwhelming feelings to confinement, where the body spoke but couldn't speak, where words became unreachable and experiences intangible, the performance “Leaking Mother Tongue” reflects upon the relationship between the body and forgotten memory.

Through motions of instinct and ingredients of origin, Mar Fu Qi delves into the hidden traces settled in her body, to explore a closer understanding of what is rooted inside. In which she invites the audience to listen;

- what words does your body carry?

with her arms folded, she holds her milk drops closer

pressed against her pounding chest

as she seeks for echoes of nourishing crawls …
